JOIN TORBAY SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB

Our aim is to make the people living and holidaying in Torbay fitter and safer on our wonderful beaches.

Torbay Surf Life Saving Club is a fully affiliated member of Surf Life Saving Great Britain (SLSGB) Surf Life Saving GB is the national charity of five thousand volunteer beach lifesavers. Through a network of Surf Life Saving Clubs the charity provides opportunities to learn about water safety, become qualified as a lifesaver and compete in Life Saving Sport. The Surf Life Saving Club is a unique volunteering opportunity, linking generations in a common passion and commitment, the newly formed Torbay Surf Life Saving Club aims to fill a gap to make the beaches of Torbay safer and to make people living and holidaying in Torbay fitter and safer.

In 2018 approx 2500 children, teachers, parents went through our club doors to learn water safety and drowning prevention. In 2019 this is set to almost double!

Training

Torbay Surf Life Saving Club has 3 set training nights with additional alternative dates depending on time of year.


Youth 14 and over (school years Yr 9 and above)

  • Mondays- Youth (May to October)


 

Nippers 10 to 13 (school yrs 6, 7, 8) Yr 5 (9) with special permission only.

  • Tuesday- Juniors (May to October)

Adults (including 16 to 18 with special permission)

  • Thursday (May to October), Saturdays (October to April)


 

Depending on age students will complete the Junior Lifeguard programme through to full Lifeguard qualification at 16.  Students will be learning water safety, drowning prevention and practical skills with rescue buoys, rescue boards and surf skis.  Pre-requist for attendance to either age group is an ability to swim 400m in under 11 mins and 200m sprint in under 50 secs. Please see dates of training and costs below. 

Sessions are oversubscribed each year and previous members have the right to attendance before new members.  All are welcome to the first session (see dates), if you pass the session tests then membership will be made available at the cost stated below. 

Costs (2019 season)

SLSGB membership        £25 (if you are already an SLSGB member you don’t need to pay the £25)

Juniors and Youth           £100 full year (between 20-25 sessions)

Adults                                £150 Full year (All year)

WE ARE ONE OF OVER 80 CLUBS IN THE UK

The club is run by a team of volunteers.  The more adults who are willing to commit their time and skills to the club, the more we can achieve on the beach and in the water.  If you feel you have a skill or any time that you can offer to any of our activities or the club maintenance/administration, please email the club committee who would be delighted to involve you.
